Monitoring Section

This section of the console assigns the signals that will be heard through the studio monitor speakers and control room headphones.
Also located here are the master microphone buttons A and B, the CUE level control, the talk-back microphone, and the intercom groups.
UX24 Monitoring Area The selection controls 1 and 2 are encoders with rotation and push functions.
To select a signal source:
  1. Rotate the encoder: the options will cycle on the display, flashing until confirmed.
  2. Press the encoder to confirm: the audio switches at that moment.
If the knob is rotated but not pressed to confirm, after 10 seconds the change is canceled and the display returns to the previous source.
If the encoder is pressed without rotating, it returns to the previous source (indicated below the current one in small text), allowing quick switching between two sources.

1 Studio Monitor

Selects the source sent to the STUDIO MONITOR output.
Options: AIR-IN, PGM, REC, AUX, VBUS, CUE.
  • The level for studio speakers and headphones is adjusted from the touchscreen under the MONITOR option. This level is typically left fixed, with each participant adjusting their own level from a headphone distribution unit.
  • In single-booth radio stations, monitor speakers may be connected to the Control Room output to utilize the physical volume knob.

2 Control Room (Control Room Monitoring)

Allows selecting the source sent to the CONTROL ROOM outputs.
Options: AIR-IN, PGM, REC, AUX, VBUS.
Control Room Speaker Mute:
When using a microphone in the Control Room, it can be configured to mute the control room speaker output upon activation (see Channel Display).
This is also used in single-studio or “hot studio” setups, connecting monitoring speakers to the Control Room output and configuring all microphones as “located in Control Room” to enable automatic muting.

3 Control Room Monitor Level

Rotary fader that adjusts the level of the speakers connected to the Control Room output.
The output is line level for active or amplified speakers. The maximum level achieved will also depend on the adjustment of the monitors themselves.

4 Control Room Headphones Level

Rotary fader for the operator’s headphones level (connected to Control Room Headphones).

5 CUE Level

Rotary fader for the CUE bus level.
The main display shows a calibrated dBfs meter that reflects the level after the CUE control. If the fader is closed, there will be no indication.
The SPEAKER and PHONES buttons allow injecting the CUE signal into the Control Room speakers and/or headphones.
  • When active, the CUE signal is summed with the monitored signal (shown on the SOURCE display).
  • The main signal is automatically attenuated when a CUE signal is present.
  • The attenuation level is configured in the MONITOR → ADVANCED screen.
The CUE bus can be assigned to any output for connecting auxiliary speakers. By default, it is assigned to UNBAL 8.

Intercom and Talk-Back

INTERCOM

The Intercom buttons (see item 6 in the image) are linked to audio outputs from the console to configure advanced talkback circuits. When an Intercom button is pressed, the talkback microphone audio interrupts the audio on the output associated with that Intercom.
Use cases:
  • Set up differentiated headphone groups to speak to everyone (with Talk-Back) or to a specific group (with Intercom).
  • Set up a Talk-Back button for a Studio B.
Using HD3 as IntercomDownload a guide to install a Solidyne StudioBox HD3 as Intercom.

TALK-BACK

When this button is pressed, the Talk-Back microphone is sent to the STUDIO output (speakers and headphones). In headphones, Talk-Back is played on the left channel while maintaining the program signal (or other assigned signal) on the right channel.

MASTER-MIC Buttons

Simultaneously activate all microphone channels associated with the button (A or B).
Also triggers the corresponding Tally A or B signaling, and mutes the speakers on the STUDIO output (MASTER MIC A) or the audio output assigned to Studio B (MASTER MIC B).

MONITOR Screen

Access by pressing **MONITOR **on the main screen shortcuts. Ux24 Funciones Monitor Pn Replicates the signal assignment for the Studio and Control Room, displaying the options on screen in a traditional button layout, but with “touch buttons”. To change an assignment, touch the option. Ux24 Monitor Basic Jp There is a CUE level indicator, in dBfs. The displayed level is post CUE level knob. There will be no level indication if the knob is closed. CUE Reset
Turns off all active CUE buttons.
ADVANCED
Displays level controls and advanced settings for monitoring signals.
Monitoring Adv Pn
To change a value, touch the control and rotate the encoder. Press the encoder to confirm.

Studio Speaker

Adjusts the signal level for speakers connected to the Studio Monitor output.
The output is line level, designed for active speakers.

Studio Headphones

Adjust the signal level for headphones connected to the Studio Monitor output.
It is designed to feed a headphone distribution amplifier.
Monitoring Level Note:
The level of the studio’s speaker and headphone outputs should be adjusted to prevent excessive amplification in active monitors or the headphone distribution amplifier.
If the console’s signal is too low and subsequently amplified, the signal-to-noise ratio will degrade.

On-Air Input Gain

Controls the gain of the Air Monitor Input (external tuner).

Ring Level

Level of the “ring” tone in CUE, generated by the console when a call is received via landline or Bluetooth.

Talkback Mic Level

Adjusts the talkback microphone level to Studio monitoring, Intercom, and telephone lines.

Talkback Mic Source

Defines the microphone input used for talkback (Studios, TELCO, and Intercom).
Options:
  • Built-in ambient microphone.
  • Microphone inputs 1 to 4.
  • UNIDEX-4 L and UNIDEX-4 R.
  • DANTE #1 (when available)
The input assigned to talkback can also be assigned to a channel, for example, to put that microphone on-air.

Control Room CUE Sum Audio Att

Sets the attenuation of the signal being monitored in the Control Room when a CUE signal is mixed into speakers and/or headphones.
This attenuation is also applied when activating a talk-back button (to studios or TELCO line) or an Intercom.

Intercom Input

Adjusts the signal level in CUE coming from StudioBox accessories (reverse talkback). Intercom to CUE: enables or disables the Intercom return input to the CUE bus.
